Uganda’s kickboxing champion, Moses Golola has announced that he will retire on December 9, 2022.
Golola told ChimpReports on Saturday that he has organized a retirement fight in which he will fight with South Sudan’s James Majok at Lugogo Cricket Oval on December 9.
“I am preparing for my retirement fight. I am going to fight with James Majoka. I am bringing James Majok here in Uganda on December 9th,” he said.
As he prepares to leave the ring, Golola announced a number of programs and activities that will lead to the retirement fight.
They include; planting at least half a million trees to protect the environment, and mitigate climate change, and climbing of Mt Rwenzori and Mt Muhavura to promote Tourism.
“We have a huge program. We are going to climb Mt Rwenzori. We are going to promote kickboxing all-over Uganda. We want to use this campaign to plant trees because our climate is in danger. I am going to visit all political leaders; from His Excellence the President. I tell him, the nature is getting finished. We want to use sports to protect our nature. If we all come together, we can save our nature,” he said.
Mountain climbing, he said, will be done with one of the VIPs he didn’t mention, and called on other high profile persons to follow suit, and promote domestic tourism.
“We are going to use this campaign to promote tourism because most Ugandans have not taken time to visit our local tourist attractions. We are going to have a hike of Mt Rwenzori and the Mt. Muhavura. We want to ensure we promote domestic tourism. I am going to hike with one of the VIPs in this country. You are going to know. We are going to hike with that person, and after that I am going to call all CEOs to hike. Members of Parliament, come and hike.”
Meanwhile, Golola launched a campaign dubbed “Unaweza” (yes we can), where he will organize fights in all regions of Uganda in search for the next champion.
During the campaign, fights will be organized in all the four regions of Uganda where eight fighters will be chosen.
“We are looking for the next champion of Uganda. We are looking for the next of Golola. I will feel proud using my energy to promote these young men. I want to use this retirement, and the Unaweza campaign to search for more talent. We are looking to, see who is the champion. We have so many young men who believe in themselves. They are down in the villages, but they don’t get the platform, and don’t have where to excel their talent. So, if you can, come and show yourself,” Golola said.
Asked why he has decided to retire at this time, Golola said, “I want to reserve my energy to promote the Academy.”
Golola initiated the “Golola Talent Academy” to promote young talent in kickboxing.
The Golola Talent Academy, he said needs lots of energy and commitment because the young talent has no platform to expose themselves to the world, and shine.
“I want to promote the young talent. I am going to do the talking, they are going to do the fighting because here in Uganda, if I am not doing the fight, there is no kickboxing. So, I want to retire, and give space to the young people.”
The Academy, he said, aims to promote and shine Ugandan kickboxers.
Golola expressed displeasure that Uganda has no academies, saying that this has crippled many talents.
“It’s only here in Uganda where you don’t find academies. You can only raise the young talents when you have an academy. We want to get champions. Champions are made. Golola Talent Academy is looking to make champions. We want to see that every month, there is a tournament because I believe that we can use sport to change way of life in the ghetto. The reason we have abuse of drugs, domestic violence is because many people are idle. As Golola Moses who has kicked a zero to become a hero, I want to engage the ghetto youths with sports,” he said.
