Equity Hawks (Kenya) and Al Ahly (Egypt) are the Women and Men’s FIBA Africa Zone Five Champions.
Al Ahly beat up on country mates Smouha 68-67 in a closely contested final on Sunday in Dar es salaam
Al Ahly had ousted Rwanda’s REG 74-65 in the semis, Smouha eliminated Kenya Ports Authority 81-57 in the other semis on Saturday.
In the Women’s category, Equity Hawks (Kenya) beat KPA (Kenya) 70-54 to finish on top of the six team with an unbeaten record.
KPA, who were the defending champions, finished as runners up.
Uganda’s sole representatives UCU Lady Canons finished third with three wins and two losses.
The University side managed to pick victories against Welkite (Ethiopia), APR (Rwanda) and JKT (Tanzania).
The side that lost to Kenya’s two clubs in Equity and KPA, will miss out on a ticket to the upcoming Africa Championship.
In their last game on Sunday, UCU beat up on JKT 66-33 with Sarah Ageno and Brenda Kayaga scoring 14 and 11 points respectively.
It should be noted that City Oilers, KIU Titans and KCCA Leopards did not honour the invitations due to prepreparedness and financial constraints.
