UCU Lady Canons finished third in the recently concluded FIBA Africa Zone Five Basketball championship held in Dar es salaam.
Despite missing out on the top two spots, which earns you a ticket to represent the region at the continent, the University side leaves Tanzania with something to smile about.
Following their impressive performances, UCU players Vilma Achieng and Rose Akon won big.
Vilma was named in the best team of the tournament as the best Centre.
APR duo Kantore Sandra and Urwibutso Nicole were named the best Point guard and Power forward respectively. Okumu Selina (Equity) for Shooting Guard as best Small Forward went to Equity’s Melisa Otieno.
In the individual honours, UCU’s Rose Akon Macuei was the top rebounder. Nicole (APR) was the Top Scorer, Okoth Belinda (Equity) was the tournament’s MVP.
It should be noted that the UCU duo, Akon and Vilma, were the only
non Ugandans on the team.
In the category of team awards, Ethiopian representatives Welkite received the award for Fair Play.
Equity and KPA who finished Champions and Runners-up in that order, will represent the region at the continent.
