Government through the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) has established a 6 metric ton per hour mango fruit factory in Yumbe district in West Nile.
Speaking this week during a technical testing of the factory, Dr. Samuel Mugasi, the Executive director NAADS urged farmers in the region to supply quality mangoes to the factory at an equitable price for a sustainable and continuous production
Dr. Mugasi added that the construction of the fruit factory is now at 90% with all the equipment fully installed.
The remaining works includes tiling, levelling of the compound and construction of the fence.
He also said works at the factory are expected to be completed in December 2020, when President Yoweri Museveni will commission it.
Government has so far injected Shs.8.9 billion to establish and operationalize this fully equipped mango processing facility.
The factory is designed based on the local mangoes grown in the West Nile region.
It will be a ready market for the farmers with some companies already making offers to buy mango pulp that will be produced by the factory.
