Police in Kampala has two suspects in connection to various extortion and blackmail allegations.
The two are identified as Ben Sebuguzi and Lillian Mukiibi and are currently locked up at Special Investigations Unit in Kireka.
According to police, the suspects are said to belong to an organization called Youth Power Research Uganda.
In a statement, the Deputy Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango referred to it as “An illegal organization which is not registered according to the laws of Uganda.”
Onyango said that the holding charges for the suspects are threatening violence, blackmail and extortion.
He added that the duo have been using illegal methods to obtain money and information from key personalities in the country.
He noted the most recent incident saying that “They demanded information in possession of the IGG, Ms Irene Mulyagonja to be released to them, if not they would do something she will regret.”
The IGG complained to Police and Director CID began investigations that led to their arrest.
According to the police publicist, the suspects will appear in court next week after investigations.
He urged members of the public who have any information in regard to this illegal group to go to CID headquarters, Kibuli and make statements.
“We are still looking for other members of this illegal organization,” he said.
