Young Water Professionals Launch Hand Washing Campaign in Schools

Young Water Professionals, a group of young professionals who are passionate about water, hygiene and the environment have launched a hand washing campaign aimed at promoting hygiene, sanitation and health among the school going children.

The campaign was launched on Friday June 30th during the annual School Water and Sanitation clubs convention organised by National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)

The Young Water Professionals work with NWSC as the host institution in Uganda.

The ceremony was presided over by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Water and Environment Mr. Alfred Okot Okidi.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Okidi applauded the youth for coming up with this initiative.

“Promoting hand washing among the young children will help to reduce the spread of diseases and costs in treatment”

He pledged that his ministry will support the campaign.

NWSC Managing Director Eng Silver Mugisha, a mentor to the group shared that children are vulnerable and are at risk of catching diseases.


He applauded the youth for the initiative and assured them of the corporation’s support.


The Young Water Professionals Uganda chapter is affiliated to the International Young Water Professionals, International Water Association and the African Water Association.

Club President Mr John Fisher Sekabira and Secretary General Ms Vivian Newumbe further revealed that the club will roll out the hand washing campaign in various schools across the country.
