Officials said they suspect the activists of smuggling the ‘yellow pigs’ onto Kampala streets yesterday.

Dressed in white t-shirts and on bare feet, pills Robert Mayanja and Norman Tumuhimbise today dared police as they matched towards CPS before being arrested and detained.

“We were summoned by Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander to appear at police and answer some charges. As law abiding citizens we have brought ourselves here but we were surprised as police arrested us,” explained the group coordinator Norman Tumuhimbise.

Chimp Corp Kenneth Kazibwe says the duo came with their hands tied with chains.

According to the youth, government has not done enough to address the high unemployment rate which they said is no longer bearable.

However, according to Kampala South RPC James Ruhweza, the youth are part of the group that he said had become a nuisance by dropping pigs along Kampala road.

“Yes we have arrested them because they became a public nuisance when they brought and let loose pigs yesterday on Kampala streets with unknown interests. They will be charged for being public nuisance. One of the cars we impounded belongs to Tumuhimbise and we discovered it was used to ferry the pigs to the city centre,” Ruhweza explained.

Tumuhimbise and Mayanja recently made headlines after smuggling two yellow-painted pigs into Parliament compound but were arrested and briefly sent to Luzira on charges of criminal trespass, interrupting proceedings of Parliament and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour.

On Wednesday, 4 yellow painted pigs were dropped at Watoto Church by youths   who were protesting against the forthcoming KCCA Kampala City carnival.

They claim the festival does not make sense to residents of Kampala struggling with poverty, poor transport infrastructure and high levels of unemployment.
