Police in Rubanda have in detention a 20-year-old woman who is accused of cutting off her son’s private parts.
The suspect, Patience Kyomuhendo is said to have cut off the baby’s penis, supposedly out of anger over her husband’s behavior.
The baby boy is aged only seven months.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesman Elly Maate says Kyomuhendo, a resident of Kiruruma village in Bufundi sub county, Rubanda district, committed the unthinkable act early Thursday morning at around 6:00am at her home.
On being questioned, according to Maate, the suspect told police that she mutilated her son “because her husband abandoned them to suffer and went to Buganda” and that she wanted to punish him.
She was reported to police after committing the crime, by 65-year-old Ester Mparushimana, the paternal grandmother to the child.
Mpurishimana is now taking care of the injured baby.
According to the police spokesman, Kyomuhendo intended to commit suicide after that gruesome act, but was intercepted before she could.
The victim was referred to Kabale referral hospital and was reported in a stable condition although in pain.
The case is being investigated under file number SD 19/27/06/19 at Rubanda Police Station.
