
Hearing of the case in which Ndeeba businessman Godfrey Muhirwa is accused of shooting dead three Flying Squad operatives whom he accused of robbing him, failed to kick off Thursday as fixed.
Senior State Attorney Fatinah Nakafeero informed the trial judge Steven Mubiru that the two eyewitnesses whom they had, declined to come to Court in fear for their lives.
Nakafeero told court that the witnesses also asked the prosecution team not to bother calling on their phones.
The state also a tried to get in touch, Mubiru said, with another witness, — the case investigating officer — but since January 17th 2019 he refused to pick his phone.
Nakafeero asked court to adjourn the matter to enable her consult the DPP on the way forward.
The case was adjourned to February 5th for prosecution to report in court the level of witness safety.
Godfrey Muhirwa, a resident of Nsiike zone, Ndeeba in Rubaga division is charged with three counts of murder.
Prosecution states that on October 15th 2014, Muhirwa killed three police officers; Deogratius Jaaya, Mohammed Kiwana and Matia Busulwa.
According to the evidence on court records, the bodies were found lying in a Premio vehicle with 19,960,000 million shillings which is suspected to be part of 20 million shillings which was stolen from the accused [Muhirwa].
Muhirwa is also charged with unlawfully possession of a firearm which he allegedly used to kill the officers.
