Former Leader of Opposition and Woman Member of Parliament for Kasese District Hon.Winnie Kizza has urged all Women especially those who went through the FOWODE leadership training to take up leadership positions.
While speaking at the closing ceremony of the 25th alternative and transformative leadership training(mentorship camp) organized by Forum for Women in democracy,Kizza said that there is no need for the young Women leaders to fear occupying their space in the coming 2021 general elections.
“I encourage you to participate in the 2021 elections and probably, take up leadership positions without hesitation.
Some people still have fear, kick out the fear and take a risk, Successful people are risk takers, if you don’t kick yourself out of that box that is holding you, you will never succeed.
Even those who want to start initiatives, take a risk you cannot get what you want when you are just seated, go out and look for it, you are your own life’s master,”said Kiiza.
The legislator revealed that she was inspired by Winnie Byanyima,who who later encouraged her to join FOWODE leadership training right from the time she was a district councilor.
The Kasese MP, however, cited the challenges that leaders always encounter in their day to day life among which include; lack of exposure and reading, a reason they utter out uncoordinated statements and end up making uninformed decisions.
With the major aim of empowering and encouraging young women to build leadership that have a vision and a commitment to gender equality, social justice and social transformation among others, the trainees were taken through sensitive issues which among others include;governance,feminism and gender equality.
The 8-day residential 25th alternative and transformative leadership training(mentorship camp) attracted 45 young women from various districts of Uganda including;Amuria,Luweero,Gulu,Kabaale,Kampala,Lira,Soroti,Masindi and Hoima among others.
