Winnie Kiiza and Team to End FDC Ties, Form Parallel Group

The fired Leader of Opposition, Winnie Kiiza and 28 other Members of Parliament on the Forum for Democratic Change ticket are said to have resolved to form a separate entity at Parliament.

Sources are telling us the MPs, who sat at Fang Fang Hotel Kampala for up to 6 hours last night, decided to cautiously detach from FDC leadership in Najjankumbi, mobilize other opposition parties and leaning independent colleagues to establish a significant numerical opposition power house targeting over 70 members.

Since Article 83 (g) of the Constitution bars them crossing the floor or leaving the party ticket that brought them to Parliament, the legislators reportedly agreed that the new body will  operate as a pressure group.

“We have decided to come up with a separate entity in the house for all opposition members and independent leaning MPs,” one of the sources who attended the meeting told us.

ChimpReports has learnt that, the 29 FDC MPs will immediately withdraw the Shs 500,000 monthly contributions to the party.

FDC MPs opposed to Amuriat leadership will also resign from all Shadow Cabinet positions and committee leadership and mobilize the members of other opposition parties to quit.

The source says, the Fang Fang meeting however, abandoned the third proposal which was to sabotage the Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises under the leadership of Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Mubarak Munyagwa respectively.

“We don’t want direct confrontations. Let them fail the accountability committee themselves and the country shall judge them,” another source said.

The breakaway FDC MPs believe that a senior party official is positioning himself in “lucrative” committees to prepare to fully take the party mantle from the founding leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye.

We are told Kasilo County MP, Elijah Okupa was elected as the interim chairperson of the pressure group, whose name is to be announced today.

When contacted on phone, Okupa cautiously requested our reporter to wait for the “grand” announcement.

“Everything is going to be made public,” he briefly.

This investigative website has been told that Winnie Kiiza is going to take up leadership of the entity when it is formalized as a political party in 2020. The Constitution allows MPs to cross the floor one year to the end of their tenure.
