Democratic Party President Norbert Mao has explained why the party decided to endorse West Nile popular Musician, Kennedy Madira aka JM Kennedy as their flag bearer for the Arua Municipality parliamentary seat.
The seat fell vacant following the murder of MP, Ibrahim Abiriga who was killed by unknown assassins on his way back home in Kawanda, Wakiso district.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Mao said the party did better ground study and found that Madira was the suitable candidate who will best represent the people of Arua in Parliament.
“We have a very promising candidate in Arua Municipality. JM Kennedy is a popular musician in West Nile; I think musicians have passed their messages through music for long and now want also to speak in Parliament, which we welcome,” Mao said.
Madira, according to Mao, is one of a few musicians who sings with a social conscious and has through his music fought for the plight of the lay man in West Nile.
“We encouraged him to pursue the race; we have musicians who are just looking for money only to buy new cars, to go round showing off. But there are those that sing about the social problems that affect the people in the country,” Mao said.
“It’s not about the music but the message; we have endorsed the candidature of JM Kennedy because his message has had impact on the society.”
