Uganda Hippos captain and SC Villa defender Gavin Kizito Mugweri is optimistic about guiding the team to the 2020 CECAFA U-20 championship and bring the trophy back home.
The Hippos sailed to the final after defeating rivals Kenya 3-1 in the semi-final duel played at Black Rhino Academy on Monday afternoon thanks to Kenneth Semakula (1) and Ivan Bogere’s brace.
Gavin Kizito said, “We are going to work hard and take the trophy back to Uganda. We have played the semi-finals and God has helped us to secure a win today which makes me sure that we shall win the tournament.”
“As I said before, we didn’t come here to participate in the tournament rather we are here to compete and win the tournament,” the Sports Club Villa defender added.
Victory over Kenya guaranteed Uganda Hippos a slot in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Tournament slated for next year in Mauritania.
Uganda will tussle it out with hosts Tanzania in the CECAFA U-20 championship final scheduled for Wednesday at Black Rhino Academy in Arusha.
Kassim Harunah scored the lone goal as Tanzania edged South Sudan 1-0 during the second semi-final of the 2020 CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup at the Black Rhino Academy.
