Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine could have survived an attempt on his life in Kayunga District yesterday (Tuesday).
A new video released by Ghetto TV, a digital livestream channel associated with the National Unity Platform (NUP) shows an explosive device burst out right behind Bobi.
It all started with security forces blocking the main road to Kayunga where Bobi planned to address a campaign meeting.
Bobi’s supporters put up resistance, sparking a fierce battle with security forces in which his producer and confidant, Sir Dan Magic sustained serious facial injuries.
As Bobi tried to assess the situation, a man wearing a black t-shirt and dark glasses quietly walked behind a car close to Bobi.
According Ghetto TV’s video, the man, who has now been identified as Nobert Elba Ariho, can be seen dropping a round-shaped device on the car’s windscreen with hopes of rolling toward Bobi’s position.
Fortunately, the device instead rolls back before exploding.
Bobi can be seen in the video taking shelter from the explosion which left the candidate’s police bodyguard injured.
ChimpReports understands Ariho is part of Bobi’s “inner ring” which consists of his up-close and personal protection.
Ariho can also be seen posing in pictures with Bobi’s bodyguards including Eddie Mutwe.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga was not readily available for comment.
However, officials who talked to this website on condition of anonymity said a police investigation is underway to arrest Ariho.
It is yet to be established if Ariho wanted to injure or assassinate Bobi Wine.
Nevertheless, the development comes high on the heels of reports that Bobi has been an assassination target of criminals to trigger an insurrection in the country.
Bobi, who until recently was a musician, has in recent months gained immense popularity across the country, nearly upending Dr Kizza Besigye as Uganda’s opposition leader.
The explosion has raised fears that Bobi’s inner circle was infiltrated by criminals.
