Wanyama Invitational Ladies Online Chess Tournament Attracts East Africa’s Best 10

With no sporting activity taking place following the president’s directives combating the COVID-19 pandemic, different sportsmen since been restricted to private training sessions at the confines of their homesteads.

Most sports associations and federations have been limited to online meetings in order to maintain the behind the scenes planning.

Uganda National Chess team captain and Coach, Harold Wanyama came up with a brilliant idea of engaging the chess fraternity in the continued lockdown period with a strictly “Ladies” Online Chess Tournament.

The maiden Invitational Ladies’ Online Chess Tournament will have ten of East Africa’s best Female Chess players picked by the organizer, Harold Wanyama.

The participants will compete online on the Lichess play zone for a USD 350 (Shs 1.9m) as prize money.

The tournament that will have Six Ugandans and four Kenyan Chess players beginning with a single round robin on the Saturday 27th June with the top scoring players qualifying for the top Four knockoutstage, scheduled for Sunday.

All games are scheduled to kickoff at will start at 10:00 am in a tournament that not only promises action but also ingenuity.
