Uganda Cranes defender Godfrey Walusimbi alias Jjajja Walu was on the score sheet for Gor Mahia as they began the SportPesa Super Cup title defence on a high.
The left back scored the second goal of the day as Gor Mahia defeated Zanzibar’s Jeish La Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) 3-0 at Afraha stadium.
Despite missing a penalty through Ephrem Guikan, Gor Mahia proved their abilities to eventually win and advance to the semifinals.
George “Blackberry” Odhiambo fired the Kenyan giants into the lead at the half-hour mark off Francis Kahata’s assist.
Six minutes later, Walusimbi doubled the lead before second half substitute Meddie Kagere put the game beyond reach later on in the second half.
In the other game played on the day, Kenya’s Kakemega HomeBoyz shocked Tanzania’s Yanga Africans pulling off a 2-1 win.
Gor Mahia will now take on the winner between AFC Leopards and Singida United who face off on Tuesday.
The tournament attracted a total of 8 teams with four from Kenya and the other four from Tanzania. The winner will get the chance to play Everton FC at Goodson Park all courtesy of SportPesa.
