Volleyball World Cup: Kenya Finishes 10th After Peru Win

Kenya women’s team at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Cup ended their ten-day campaign with a hard fought 3-2 (23-25, here 29-27, 25-27, 25-23,15-13) sets over Peru to finish tenth in the world rankings only above their day’s opponents and the other African representatives Algeria.

“I think we played a very good match and congratulations to Peru for giving us a very good competition,” coach David Lungaho said after the match.

He said Kenya have achieved their target.

“We wanted to win at least two matches. It’s very important for Kenya and Africa. I’m happy for my players for staying focused and happy we came out victorious.”


Kenya’s Mercy Moim emerged the fourth top scorer with 146 points.

China beat hosts Japan by 3-1 to take their fourth title after winning ten games and losing only one.

Serbia and USA closed the top three while the other African representatives, Algeria lay bottom of the table without a single win or set.

The top two teams qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
