VJ JUNIOR CASE: Magistrates changed as Defense Objects to Fresh Charges

Magistrates in the case against famous movie translator MarySmart Matovu better known as VJ Junior have been changed.

The change came after prosecution’s move to slap fresh charges on the translator.

This case which has been before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani has been allocated to the head of Utility Court Chief Magistrate James Mawanda Eremye.

This was consequent of the new charge sheet that involves Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), which falls under the jurisdiction of the Utility court.

It shall be remembered that on the previous hearing, prosecution led by Ms. Annet Nabulobi informed court of a decision to amend the charge sheet to be able to introduce fresh charges on VJ junior.

Nelly Asiku the state prosecutor presented a new charge sheet that contains 3 more charges that include “Operating without a license” and “infringement on copyright.”

However the two defense counsels Luyimbaazi Nalukoola and Kirabira Tonny asked the magistrate to give them ample time to be able to file preliminary of law about the new charges.

In that regard, the Magistrate adjourned the matter to August 1, 2017 for plea taking and hearing of the preliminary point of law.


VJ Junior and his co-accused Geoffrey Bbosa were arrested in May this year on orders of Minister for Ethics and Integrity Father Simon Lokodo acusing them of circulating pornographic films with intent to corrupt public morals.

VJ Junior was charged with sale of Pornography Contrary to section 13 of the Anti-Pornography Act.

Bbosa Geoffrey, on the other hand, is also charged with sale of Pornography with prosecution contending that on May 23, 2017 at Zai Plaza Shop No FF3 in Kampala District, he sold 4 Pornographic movies titled “Tarzan”, “Lie with me”, “Endless Love” and “Impulse” Namuganya Aisha.
