Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers Sports Club have finally had a breather after their prized possession and captain Halid Lwaliwa’s extended his stay at the club.
The hard tackling defender has signed a two-year contract extension at the Kitende outfit that will see him stay at the St Mary’s Stadium until 2022.
According to Bigwales sports, the center back bagged a whopping fourty million Ugandan shillings (Shs. 40m) as a sign-on fee in the new deal prior to the team’s engagements in next season’s CAF Champions League.
Previously, the Uganda Cranes defender was linked to several moves away from the Venoms with Austrian League Two side Grazer AK leading the race to secure his signature.
He was given Vipers’ armband at the beginning of last season replacing Taddeo Lwanga who joined Egyptian Premier League side Tanta Sports Club.
The Venoms have so far made four crucial signings in midfielders Jamil Kaliisa, David Bagoole, left back Disan Galiwango and striker Ibrahim Orit.
As 2019/2020 UPL winners, Vipers SC will represent Uganda in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League on top of featuring in the Stanbic Uganda Cup and the FUFA Super Cup.
