Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have on Sunday confirmed the arrival of midfielder Innocent Wafula at St. Mary’s stadium.
The club confirmed on their website that Wafula has agreed to join them on a three year agreement.
“Vipers Sports Club confirms the arrival of Innocent Wafula as a new player at the club. The winger cum right back has officially join the Venoms.”
“Wafula who has been plying his trade with Kenyan champions Gor Mahia joins us on a three year deal. He becames the first signing for Vipers SC in the January transfer window.” The Club confirmed.
Chimp Sports broke the news last month how Vipers SC were close to completing the signing of the former Gor Mahia player.
Wafula watched the CAF Confederation Cup game between Vipers SC and CS Constantine at St. Marys stadium and reliable reports indicated he had come to finalise his move.
The former Kirinya Jinja SS player was deemed surplus to requirement at Gor Mahia with his contract not renewed. K’ Ogalo cited the quota system where the Kenyan Premier League limits a club to have only five foreigners and thus couldn’t hold onto him any more.
Upon completing the move, Wafula was quick to show his delight about becoming a Vipers SC player and indicated he will offer to the best of his ability to help the club attain its targets.
“I am, of course, delighted and very proud to be Vng Vipers SC. I’m very happy to be here and to be a Venom. I really felt that the club wanted me to come. I will give my best on the pitch, and hopefully be a very good player for this team.” He said as quoted by the club website before adding ” The team has very talented players and it is a pleasure for me to part of such a set up. I therefore will work hard to fit in easily. ”
The three time league champions showed interest in the winger cum right back in August last year but failed to reach to an agreement with Gor Mahia and instead settled for Noah Wafula who has been ineffective since joining them.
Vipers SC next game is at home against Onduparaka FC in the league on Tuesday, 8th December 2019.
