Vipers Promote Junior Septet Ahead of Build Up Friendlies

Four goals from Ismail Diakite, search Moussa Samba Moussa, Boubacar Beyguili and Moulaye Khalil ensured Mauritania ended South Sudan’s dreams of reaching the first ever Worldcup qualifying stage in their debut year. The loss was the first for South Sudan in a Fifa competition.

The East Africans had put their hopes high after clinging to a one all draw in Juba barely a week ago. Mauritania goes through with a 5-1 aggregate and is set to play North African giants Tunisia for a chance to play in the group qualifying phase.

In the other game, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Fiston Abdulrazack grabbed a brace as Burundi defeated Sychelles 2-0 in Bujumbura. Burundi takes on neighbors DR Congo in the next stage.

The two legged-fixtures will be played between Monday 9th and Tuesday 17th November 2015 with overall winners progressing to the group qualifying stages.  The top teams in the groups get an automatic spot in the 2018 Russia Worldcup.

Seven youngsters from the Vipers Junior Team have been drafted into the main team scheduled for a series of friendlies with second tier outfits Proline, cheapest Masavu and Entebbe Fc.

The septet include Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye, ailment Shaban Muhammed, Alex Komakech, Ashraf ‘Farida’ Bamunturaki,   Bashir Mutanda,  Bashir Asiku and goalie Derrick Ochan. They step in the shoes of the first team players who are currently in the Cranes squad for Chan qualifiers.

“It’s important to maintain competitiveness within the team minus the regular starters who are currently with the national team. Perhaps this is the time the other players will have to prove their worth to break into the first team,” Golola told Vipers media.

The reigning champions are joint top with KCCA FC on the log and are lined up to play build up games against Masavu Fc on Friday at Kisubi Technical Grounds before taking on Proline on Monday at the Nakivubo Stadium and then summarizing with a tie against Entebbe Fc at Bugonga Fisheries Ground.

“The games will present a perfect opportunity to try out different formations so as to come up with various options to rely on in case of injuries or suspensions to the regular starters,”Golola remarked.
