Vinka Releases First Music Project Under Sony on MTN Tidal

Veronica Luggya commonly known by her stage name Vinka has released her first song under Sony Music Africa.

The singer went down in the Ugandan music history books in May after she was announced as the world’s biggest record label’s new signee, becoming the only second Ugandan singer to achieve the milestone.

On Friday, the singer officially premiered her new single ‘My Baibe’ with its accompanying visuals via Tidal, in a livestreaming ceremony that was hosted by MTN Uganda and the music streaming service which took place at the telecommunications giant’s offices at Nyonyi Gardens in Kololo.

Speaking about the song that was produced by D’Marion and Mudrah, Vinka revealed that she shot its visuals in London last month and was forced to re-do it’s audio due to technical issues.

The singer also opened up about the negative criticisms she has faced since announcing the news with many saying that landing that major record label deal could do nothing but have a negative effect on her career like her predecessor Keko Town who was stopped from releasing music.

However, Vinka noted that she is not bothered by the negativity and is excited for what the future holds for her with Sony.

“We don’t know the stories. Artists leave record labels every day. Usually we get to hear the artist’s story but don’t get to hear the record label’s. Everyone has a different journey. People chose to look at Keko but they did not choose to look at Davido and Wizkid.

My journey is like Davido and Wizkid’s?” She pointed out.

‘My Baibe’ is currently exclusively available for streaming on Tidal which partnered with MTN and officially launched its operations in Uganda last year.
