Singer real name Veronica Luggya alias Vinka has Monday released her new ‘Red card’ music video.
The singer premiered her responsible drinking track dubbed ‘Red Card’ at Fame lounge in Kololo, aimed at reminding alcohol consumers and music lovers to shun drink driving.
Since she was named Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) ‘Red Card’ Ambassador, Vinka has through her music label Swangz Avenue produced two songs which carry various messages portraying it is not bad to have fun and celebrate life by consuming alcohol as long as the consumer makes responsible drinking decisions.
UBL under their 7-year old Red Card Initiative, has since December 2018 been running a responsible drinking campaign that is aimed at engaging consumers to make a commitment to never drink and drive, in a bid to reduce drink driving incidents in Uganda.
Addressing journalists during the premier, UBL Public Policy and Sustainability Manager David Onyango said UBL decided to use the music platform to amplify the responsible drinking message and reach consumers in their favorite hangout spots where the consumption happens.
“Enjoying alcohol is part of life in many societies around the world. It is a part of how people socialize and celebrate. However just like other products, when misused, alcohol can lead to individual and social harm. As a responsible company, UBL we would like to see consumers of our products make responsible drinking a valued and enjoyable part of life,” he said.
The campaign dubbed ‘Join the Pact to never drink and drive’ is targeting to collect 10,000 commitments over a period of 6 months and the company is indeed leaving to its expectations as the public most especially the youth are seen responding to the different messages in Vinka’s songs and in bars during various club activations done by the ‘Red Card’ team.
Speaking to Chimpreports before the Video Premier, Vinka said the campaign is so far very effective as most of the youth are adopting the good drinking practices she preaches in her songs.
“So far now, I must say the campaign is going on well and most of the youth are paying much attention to the messages in my songs.
The impacts are as well over whelming on the different messages I post out on my social media pages advising people to only exercise good drinking habits such as taking a half break while drinking, taking a lot of water than alcohol and above all, saying no to drink driving.”
She added that she will keep spreading the good news concerning good drinking habits to the people until no one is left behind.
Vinka also rallied partiers to always take good care of themselves when celebrating because according to her when one over drinks and drives, they can easily get an accident and probably die and “what is the meaning of celebration when life is no more?”
The singer performed her smash hits to the revelers who had gathered at Fame Lounge to interact and enjoy her new music video. She did justice to her songs Mapozi,By the Way,Amaaso featuring Winnie Nwagi and finally, wined up the show with Red Card track that got revelers dancing her perfect craft.
