Police in Rubanda are hunting for a village council chairman who is said to have cut and severely injured his own Defence Secretary.
The suspect, currently on the run is Deus Bonane, the chairman of Hamurara cell in Bubaare Sub County in Rubanda district.
Bonane is said to have used a machete to cut Defence Secretary Moses Tumusime on Sunday night at around 10pm.
According to residents, the two leaders have been at loggerheads over the past weeks as they disagreed on the candidates who are standing for the Rubanda County East MP seat.
Tumusiime, who is admitted at Kabale Regional referral hospital with several stitches on his jawline narrated his ordeal to our reporter;
“I had just arrived home in the evening on Sunday, and I found Bonane waiting for me with a panga at my house. He immediately pounced and cut me in the face, saying ‘I’m going to finish you.’
“He then cut me the second time and I fell down screaming. It was then that my neighbor Milka came running and rescued me.”
Tumusime says he had received threats from Bonane because he supported Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema for the Rubanda East MP seat, while Bonane supported Henry Musasizi, the incumbent.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Police spokesman condemned the incident and said Police are hunting for the chairman.
