At least one person was confirmed dead while several several others were injured when a race car ploughed through dozens of revelers at the Uganda Sports Arena in Busiika
Over 40 drivers were participating in the race while was organized as a fundraiser for the purchase of a new Subaru N12B for driver for Ponsiano Lawakataka.
According to Deputy Police spokesman Patrick Onyango, the rally driver was trying to save the life of a thief who had stolen a mobile phone.
“The thief was being chased and he suddenly cross the road which made the driver to break suddenly and he was at high speed. The vehicle rammed into the fans and in that process 10 people were victims,” Onyango said.
The injured he said were rushed to Mulago, Nsambya hospitals and Kasana Luwero health centre.
One of the navigators who was involved in the race, told us the driver couldn’t be easily identified because the drivers were exchanging cars.

“At that time, drivers were not driving their own cars. We were exchanging cars. I couldn’t tell who was driving that particular car.”
Some of the drivers who participated in the race dubbed ‘Kiggwa Kw’olwo’ included Jas Mangat Ronald Ssebuguzi, Ponsi Lwakataka, Tufail Amin, Arthur Blick Jr, Umar Mayanja, Rauf Adam, Musa Kabega, Jonas Kansime and Susan Muwonge among others.
