At least one person has been confirmed dead and several others injured after a car rammed into a cheerful crowd during a car rally in Busiika, Wakiso district on Saturday evening.
Deputy police publicist Patrick Onyango confirmed the death, saying nine people were injured.
“The injured were rushed to Mulago, Nsambya hospitals and Kasana Luwero health centre,” said Onyango in a brief media note seen by ChimpReports.
He said the accident was caused by a rally driver who was trying to save the life of a thief who had stolen a mobile phone.
“The thief was being chased and he suddenly crossed the road which made the driver to break suddenly and he was at high speed,” said Onyango.
A courtesy video shows the car rolling several times after ramming into the motor rally fans.
Survivors could be seen calling for help.
“The vehicle rammed into the fans and in that process 10 people were victims,” said Onyango.
