Sports Club Villa finally got off the hook to register their first win this season edging struggling Nyamityobora FC 1-0 in the game at Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday.
Under new coach Douglas Bamweyana who was appointed this week, replacing Moses Basena got maximum points for the first time since May 2nd2018. The result was not only a sigh of relief but also moved the Jogoos out of the relegation zone.
Bamweyana was quick to state that they needed such a result to lift the spirits of the players and get motivated ahead of the next games.
“I must say the performance was not satisfying but the players attitude was top notch and above all we got maximum points. I believe that will help to bring confidence to the team,” he said shortly after the game.
SC Villa have been a shadow of themselves since the start of the season due to the mass exodus of players with the current squad taking long to jell.
The former Express FC manager is aware of the job at his hands but he is optimistic if given time will try to help the team improve.
“We all know SC Villa does not deserve to be where we are currently and we shall try as much as possible to make sure the team improves. I’m aware of the challenge ahead of me but we shall need the support of everyone at the club to make sure the desired progress is realized. I have the trust in the players and I believe SC Villa will become better.” He stated.
Bashir Mutanda scored the lone goal to hand Bamweyana a perfect debut. The midfielder converted a penalty in the first stanza a goal that took his tally to five this season.
SC Villa next game will be a home encounter against Maroons FC at Mandela National stadium on Thursday next week.
