It’s official, Veronica’s Wish and Kyenvu have been named Uganda’s best films this year.
After taking Uganda by storm and scooping most accolades at the recently concluded Uganda Film Festival 2018, the movies have made it to the list of top 10 African movies of 2018.
The two films were directed by Rehema Nanfuka and Kemiyondo Coutinho.
The list that was compiled by Festivilia, a festival submission and distribution platform,the were listed in among the best movies.
Other films that made it to the cut include Rafiki (Kenya), Haircut (Ghana), Black Barbie Ghana), The Right Choice (Nigeria), Hello Rain (Nigeria), I Am Not A Witch (Zambia), Super Modo (Kenya) and Lalo’s House (Benin).
‘Veronica’s Wish’ was premiered at a red carpet event at Serena Hotel on November 17 and went on to bag 12 nominations at this year’s edition of the Uganda Film Festival.
It won a whopping total of 9 awards in categories such as Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Feature Film, among others.
Meanwhile ‘Kyenvu, a short film that challenges the country’s controversial mini-skirt ban won several international and local awards such as the 2018 Harness Social Impact Award of the NBC Universal Film Festival, Best East African Talent Award at the 2018 Zanzibar International Film Festival, among others.
