Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate has penned down a short but intriguing letter calling on Joe Biden, the American President-elect and the Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to heed the cry of the many people advocating against climate change.
The 23 year old who states that she is “worried about the present and the future of our climate,” questions the leaders on whether they are going to employ the possible measures to combat the raging climate crisis.
“Climate change is affecting many people’s livelihoods in my country especially women, girls and children, are you going to do everything you must to fight the climate crisis? Are you on our side?” Nakate wrote.
She further noted thus; “all we want is a livable and healthy planet, an equitable and sustainable present and future, not to destroy our home and have a small portion of people benefit from our pain and suffering.”
Vanessa Nakate was recently named among the 100 most influential young Africans for 2020 in the 5th annual publication of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans list for 2020 announced by Avance Media and Africa Youth Awards.
“Let’s all do what we must to protect our planet and have everybody happy too. Is that too much to ask?” the rising activist concluded the short letter.
Vanessa Nakatte last year grabbed global headlines when she championed a campaign against racism in the media. Through her activism, Vanessa has rubbed shoulders with acclaimed global climate change campaigners including Sweden’s Greta Thunberg.
