The Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury (PSST), Keith Muhakanizi has taken the current Uganda Telecom woes to another level by revealing a conversation he had with the Deputy Attorney General, Mwesigwa Rukutana.
Mukahanizi crowned Friday, a frenzied day of 4 sensational correspondences between top government officials, by publicizing a phone discussion he had with Rukutana.
The PSST said the Deputy Attorney, who has disagreed with the move to remove the UTL Administrator, Bemanya Twebaze over blocking accountability, called him over the related subject.
According to Muhakanizi, Rukutana wanted to get the copy of a stinging letter written on the same day by the State for Privatization and Investments, Evelyn Anite.
“You informed me that you had not seen the letter addressed to the Attorney General which appeared in the social media. I am writing to confirm that I received a copy of the letter my Minister of State for Privatization & Investment wrote to the Attorney General. Please find attached a copy of the letter,” said Muhakainizi.
Anite’s letter rubbished the Deputy Attorney General’s position on the inevitable plan to go court to apply for the removal of UTL Administrator.
The Minister in a strong worded letter directed to Attorney General, William Byaruhanga, in an evident vote of no confidence in Rukutana, said the latter failed to comprehend her instruction of Tuesday and instead smuggled irrelevant opinion.
She explicitly stated that she did not request but instructed the Attorney General to rush to Court to save the strategic national company.
Anite has also written to President Museveni to intervene in the situation, bringing to four the number of letters written on the same subject on Friday.
