Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has continued with the tradition of appreciating and rewarding excelling athletes on a monthly basis.
Unlike previously where the winners were rewarded every other month, the sports journalists decided the crowning of monthly winners should come on a quarterly basis to make the event more interesting.
And on Wednesday evening, the maiden quarterly dinner took place at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala with winners of the months of April, May and June receiving their awards and cash prize Shs500,000 each.
The event was graced by USPA President, Sabbiti Muwanga and special guest, Cythia Mpanga, the PRO of Standard Chartered Bank plus several sports journalists.
Long distance runner, Robert Chemonges (April), body builder Andrew Ssenoga (May) and boxer Muzamir Kakande received their plaques on Wednesday.
Chemonges was crowned April’s best after winning gold at the Metro Marathon in Düsseldorf, Germany clocking 2:10:31.
The 19 year old who is currently training ahead of the World Championships in London next month was crowned in his absence.
Andrew Ssenoga who was also absent at the event was represented by Sebastian Samanya Ssentongo from Uganda Body Building Federation.
Ssenoga beat off stiff competition from KCCA FC and Jinja Secondary school (Copa Coca Cola Winners) to be crowned the best in May.
The 2016 Mr.Uganda won gold at the Internationale Meisterschaft in Neu-Ulm,Germany on May 27, 2017.
The other winner on the day was boxer Muzamir Kakande alias King Kong who won gold at the African Confederation Boxing championship in Congo Brazzaville last month.
