Urban Television Now on GOtv

Nakawa court judge Elizabeth Nahamya Ibanda has sentenced two men namely Walusimbi Farouk and Ivan Namanya to twenty five years in prison after being convicted of murdering a city businesswoman Josephine Namanda by pouring acid on her.

The two pleaded guilty of the two charges of Murder of Namanda, buy information pills and attempted murder of her 5 day old baby and her sister who were travelling with Namanda in the car by the time of the acid attack.

Through their lawyer Allan Nsime, symptoms the convicts wrote reconciliatory letter to the deceased’s family members seeking forgiveness and promised to reform and teach the public on the dangers related to misuse of acid.

The defense counsel Allan Nsime pleaded for a lenient sentence because his clients were first offenders, young, and influenced by bad groups. He said they were willing to work with the state in pinning the key suspect Kassim Kakaire (Husband to deceased) in this matter and that both of the convicts have people to look after.

In their own charge and caution statement recorded at Kira Police division, these two informed police that they were hired by Kassim Kakaire to pour acid on her as they approach Northern by pass.

“We moved with bodabodas from Bweyogerere and followed the starlet car in which Kakaire was travelling with his wife, and on reaching Nalya roundabout, Kakaire reduced speed and one man knocked on the car to alert him. But just before he could jump out of the car, we poured the acid which caught him as well.’

The relatives of the victims demanded for a very tough punishment due to the pain they suffered.

Nasiwa Carol a daughter to the late Namanda informed court that ever since her mother passed away, she has never been the same again and that her school performance sharply declined.

The offenders she said, deserved life in prison, because anything less would mean that they would come back to the community, yet her mother sleeps for ever.

The late Namanda’s father Joseph Basaaka on the other hand asked court for the offenders to be handed a 25 year jail term each.

Justice Elizabeth Nahamya in her judgment sentenced the duo to 25 years in jail excluding the six months they spent on remand.

In the meantime police is still hunting another suspect known as Kabotongo who is said to have poured the killer acid.

The attack architect Kassim Kakaire is still undergoing treatment as he awaits his trial.

Uganda’s youthful and urban niched television Urban TV has finally launched on the digital platform GoTV. This was announced Tuesday morning at the Multichoice Head Offices in Kololo, website Kampala.

Urban Tv will now air on Channel 95 on all Go TV bouquets (GoTv and GoTv plus).

Patricia Kiconco the GoTv Manager at Multichoice said that GoTv is committed to helping the analogue to digital migration.

“We have seen Urban Tv as being among the top TVs according to research, diagnosis ” she added.

She disputed the circulating information that the GoTv starter pack prices have been hiked saying there are enough decoders in stock.

The Urban Tv station manager Michael Owor noted that this was a milestone. He said they had waited for the moment for 3 painful years adding that it will make the television the leading in Uganda.
