Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)’s collection for the month of November 2018 totaled to UGX 1.32trillion, officials have revealed.
This is well above the targeted Shs 1.31 trillion, implying a gross surplus of Shs.17, 7Billion.
According to the authority, gross collections from Domestic Taxes amounted to UGX 754,918,133,939 against a target of UGX 714,615,458,109, registering a surplus of UGX 36,500,175,690. Direct Domestic Taxes (PAYE, Corporation Tax, Individual income tax, Withholding tax and Rental income tax) performed at 114.51%
Non Tax Revenue Collections performed at 111.43 %, registering a surplus of UGX 5,938,491,410.
A comparison of net cumulative revenue performance as at November 2018 with that of November 2017 shows an increase of UGX 997,737,898,285 which is about 18.6%.
This comes amid continued pressure on the tax body and the Ministry of Finance by President Yoweri Museveni over tax underperformance.
The President recently said “weevils” had returned to URA following the exit of its former Commissioner General Allen Kagina.
