UPL: Onduparaka Seek Revenge On Mbarara City

Friday, January 4
Onduparaka FC Vs Mbarara City

Onduparaka FC will play host to visiting Mbarara City at GreenLight Stadium in Arua on match day 14 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The hosts have not forgotten what happened on May 9, the last time they faced Mbarara City, a game which the latter won 1-0, controversially.

In a bitter contest, referee Muzamir Waiswa awarded Mbarara what the opponents described as a dubious penalty, when Bebe Sseguja who it’s said that was outside the box, was brought down. Nigerian forward Ema Ibe Obina converted from the spot to give Mbarara a 1-0 win against Onduparaka at Kakyeka.

There were ugly scenes as the visiting fans protruded through the stadium fence but later the storm passed and calmness was restored.

A lot has changed since, Mbarara City were under Coach Sam Kawalya and Onduparaka were managed by Coach Leo Adraa, then.

However, Onduparaka FC players like Nicholas Ssebwato, Rashid Toha, Ezra Bida and Viane Ssekajugo who started that game are still at the club and will feel that the wounds are still fresh.

However, Captain Toha will miss out of this clash, Denis Okot is also suspended, he was sent off during the 3-1 loss to URA.

The club will welcome back Rashid Okocha and also Gaddafi Gadinho who has been missed the last two games, return to the squad.

The Visitors, Come Strong

Mbarara City, fourth on the log, are level on points (23) with third placed Onduparaka and this promises to be a closely contested affair.

The visitors have been a strong force since the season started and will hope to carry that form to Arua, a place they registered a goalless draw last season.

It should also be noted that Mbarara City are going back to Arua for the second time this season, they beat Paidha 2-0 at the same ground on November 7 last year, their only away win this season.

The team go with coach Livingston Mbabazi, Karim Ndugwa and Rashid Mohammed who were at Onduparaka last season, and this gives them inside knowledge about their hosts.

Mbarara City take the trip on the back of a 2-1 league win against Bright Stars in their last engagement.
