Seven goals conceded in last five games doesn’t make a good count for KCCA FC, a team that is expected to mount a strong challenge for this year’s league title.
KCCA let in three goals against a struggling Express FC team in their 3-2 loss at Wankulukuku, losing their 15 game league unbeaten run since April 27 when they lost to Vipers in Kitende by a similar scoreline.
KCCA coach Mike Hillary Mutebi acknowledged his side were poor defensively. KCCA had Charles Lukwago in goal, covered by Filbert Obenchan, Timothy Awany, Hassan Musana and Mustafa Kizza.
“We did not defend well as expected, my backs and the goalkeeper were just poor and that’s where the problem came from,” the gaffer told reporters at Wankulukuku.
“The three times Express FC asked questions, my boys did not have the answers and we were punished. The keeper was reckless (on Galiwango’s goal).”
Express took an halftime 1-0 lead courtesy of Michael Birungi’s goal and the story could have been worse if Referee Mashood Ssali had pointed to the spot when Lukwago brought down Tony Odur in the seventh minute.
Despite an Allan Kyambadde equaliser at the restart, Express surged back to the top of the game with Eric Kambale (in a seemingly offside position) and Disan Galiwango going on target.
The visitors reduced the deficit with Allan Okello finishing off Mustafa Kiiza’s freekick with a header, and that was the closest KCCA came to threatening the host’s eventual win thereafter.
Next for KCCA is a daunting Mtibwa Sugar game in the CAF Confederation cup this Saturday at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
“We have to rectify on those errors ahead of our continent game against Mtibwa,” he added.
The coach was also critical of referee Ssali’s officiating, who he stressed that it was disappointing.
