Sunday Opio’s 17th minute goal was enough to award KCCA FC the much needed three points over Tooro United FC in the match played at the StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Friday evening.
The youngster who was making his second appearance for KCCA FC pounced on a loose ball from a poor clearance by the opponents and struck hard past Tooro United’s custodian Chris Kusiima.
Mike Mutyaba’s flawless corner kick met a floating Filbert Obenchan whose header was loosely cleared and dropped in the way of Opio who fired home his maiden senior goal.
Opio plays in the KCCA FC junior team and is widely seen as one of the promising youngsters likely to be promoted to the senior side sooner than later.
Mike Mutebi named a seemingly changed side from what was fielded in the previous game against Bright Stars.
Opio and Sserwadda who started on the bench in the previous game started in the places of Muzamiru Mutyaba who is out injured and Erisa Sekisambu who started on the bench.
Sadat Anaku who previously missed two games due to licensing issues, started upfront while Julius Poloto and goalkeeper Ali Mwirusi started from the sidelines.
In the 8th minute, Opio seemed to have opened his account for KCCA but his left-foot curled effort hit the crossbar and was cleared away.
John Revita had the opportunity to stretch KCCA’s lead but his acrobatic effort was saved by Tooro’s custodian Kusiima in the 80th minute.
