UPL: KCCA FC Earn Hard Fought Win Against Maroons FC

StarTimes Uganda Premier League
Maroons FC 0-1 KCCA FC

KCCA FC needed extra efforts to overcome Maroons FC in a closely contested encounter played in Luzira on Saturday.

In a game highlighted by the performance of goalkeepers from either side, Jackson Nunda scored in the first half for the lone goal of the game.

Whereas Emmanuel Akol was brilliant in goal for the Prison Warders, he was partly to blame for the goal conceded.

On the other hand, his counterpart Charles Lukwago literally won the game for KCCA FC making two fine saves in the closing minutes of the game and was later named the Pilsner Man of the match.

Neither side had full control of the game but they both got chances to score albeit failed to find the cutting edge.

The first attempt of the game came from Julius Poloto when he was teed up by Allan Kyambadde in the 6th minute but his strike sailed above the goal.

On the other hand, Maroons FC too came close to opening the scores in the 11th minute but Rashid Agau failed to tap home from Herman Wasswa’s cross.

The goal came a minute after the half hour mark when Ronald Orombi lost possession to Nunda in front of goal and the latter did no mistake to slot home.

Goalkeeper Akol started a short goal kick to Orombi who fumbled with the ball and Nunda punished them slotting home into the bottom right corner.

Upon resumption, Mike Mutebi called for a double change introducting Muwadda Mawejje for Poloto who seemed to have picked an injury in the first half. Filbert Obenchan came on for Musitafa Kiiza.

Maroons FC too brought on left footed midfielder Pius Obuya for Ronald Kikinyogo whose impact was instantly felt forming a great partnership with Emmanuel Oringa to dominate the midfield.

Seif Batte was later thrown into the frey coming on for Wasswa and put KCCA FC back line under pressure.

Patrick Kaddu who was facing his former employers would have doubled the lead for the visitors when he controlled a long ball from Muwadda inside the six yard box but keeper Akol came to the rescue of Maroons FC making a fine save.

With four minutes on the clock, the hosts were unlucky not to level matters with Solomon Walusimbi’s header ricocheting off the woodwork.

The rebound from Batte that was headed for goal was saved by Lukwago.

In stoppage time, Batte had another chance to head home but yet again, Lukwago stood firm to deny him.
