Uganda Premier League
URA FC 0-1 Maroons FC
Mandela National stadium
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Akol was the difference as Maroons FC stunned URA FC in the league game played at Mandela National stadium on Friday.
Akol put up a sublime performance to deny the tax collectors on several attempts and it was not surprising that he was later named man of the match.
Besides Akol’s performance, URA FC were wasteful on the day lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
Brian Majwega scored from the spot to settle the contest and condemn URA FC to their second loss this season.
URA FC had the best chances at goal in the first half with Charles Ssempa wrecking havoc on the Maroons FC back line.
His telling crosses from the left flank however went begging with no one to connect to them. Even on the times he found a teammate, they failed to convert.
New signing Cromwell Rwothomio Abang, Peter Lwasa and Moses Sseruyidde all had chances at Maroon’s goal.
On the other hand, the Prison Warders also had their moments especially through midfielder Emmanuel Olinga who was industrious on the day.
New addition from Kiboga Young Isaac Otto gave Maroons FC presence up front while Solomon Walusimbi and Rashid Agau offered support from the flanks.
Majwega converted a penalty in the 75th minute when defender Paul Mbowa held the ball in the area.
The result means Maroons FC move one place up on the log to 12th place on 18 points while URA FC remained 4th on 28 points.
