UPL: Express FC Target First Home Win Against KCCA In Eight Years

Tuesday, December 11

Express FC vs KCCA FC, 4:00 PM

Express FC will look to bury a long standing hoodoo that has seen the club fail to beat their town rivals KCCA at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The sides face off in a much anticipated fight in the StarTimes Uganda Premier league match day eleven encounter this Tuesday.

Express’ last home victory against KCCA can be traced seven season back when they won 1-0 on December 10 2010.

Then, Gulu United, Fire Masters, UTODA, Masaka LC and Victors were still playing in the top flight league.

Since 2010, Express has failed to beat KCCA in seven attempts at Wankulukuku. Five of the seven league meetings have ended in stalemates while KCCA has won twice, all coming in the last two season.

It should be noted that Express’ last league win against KCCA came on 28 April 2015 at Phillip Omondi Stadium with John Ssemazi, Isaac Sserunkuma and Julius Ogwang on target to seal a 3-0 win on the road.

KCCA FC has lost twice, won four, and drawn as many, against Express FC in the last ten league meetings overall.

The four KCCA wins over Express have come in the last two seasons – Mike Mutebi’s side has beaten Express home and away in the league in the last two seasons.

Express FC look to bounce back

The encounter finds Express FC tenth on the log with 13 points from ten games. The side has won three, drawn four and lost three games.

Express FC is on a four game winless run, having lost their last two games against Onduparaka FC and Kirinya Jinja.

However, club coach Kefa Kisala believes that his side will bounce back. He noted:

“We want to bounce back and am very hopeful that we can beat them (KCCA). It’s all about shaping the mindset of my players to be positive after those two loses.”

Tony Odur who missed the Kirinya Jinja game because of a muscle strain is set to return. Ibrahim Kayiwa, Michael Birungi and Mathias Muwanga are also in contention to start.

On Form KCCA seek to maintain unbeaten run

KCCA visit Wankulukuku, a good hunting ground for the club for the last two seasons, with almost fully fit squad.

All eyes will be mainly on KCCA’s duo Mike Mutyaba and Saddam Juma who wore arm bands for Express FC in their last stints at the club.

KCCA is on top of the log – The side has collected 24 out of a possible 30 points from ten games.

KCCA is still unbeaten in 15 games, a record that stretches back to last season when they lost 3-2 to Vipers in Kitende on 27 April 2018.

“We are well prepared for this encounter as usual, I have an equally talented pool of players to use for this game and also the CAF Confederation cup against Mtibwa,” said Mike Mutebi in a press briefing at Lugogo.

Gift Ali who made the bench against Ndejje University is likely to feature.
