UPL Awards: Sserunkuma Named 2016/17 MVP

Perhaps the writing was on the wall that veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuuma would be crowned the Most Valuable Player for last season.

And this came to pass as Sserunkuma was named the best player of the 2016/17 season in an awards event held at Imperial Royale, Hotel in Kampala on Wednesday.

The experienced forward played an integral part as Kampala Capital City Authority Football club retained the league title, scoring 21 goals to finish top scorer.

He was also influential as KCCA FC went ahead to attain the unprecedented league double. He beat Emmanuel Okwi (formerly at SC Villa) and Mohammad Shaban of Onduparaka to the coveted award that came with a new Subaru Forester and shs 2M as cash prize.

In an event graced by the emeritus speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, Kidega as the guest of honor, Sserunkuma could not hide his delight and he went ahead to thank everyone that has been behind his success. “It is a great moment for me to achieve this. It was indeed a fruitful but tireless season for me but all credit goes to my club, my teammates, Mr. Ahmed Ddamulira of Lweza who picked me out of retirement and gave me the chance to play again,” he said.

Sserunkuma was also awarded with the top scorer’s award and also was named the fan’s player of the season.

Young player of the season- Allan Okello(KCCA FC)

Best Referee- Alex Muhabi

Fair play club- KCCA FC

Fair play individual – Fred Ssenoga (He drove Vincent Onyebuchi to hospital after breaking his leg)

Best club CEO- David Tamale(Formerly at KCCA FC)

Fan(s) of the year- Onduparaka FC fans

Life time achiever- The late Patrick Kawooya(Former SC Villa chairman)
