Striker Rashid Agau was the difference as Maroons FC edged Nyamityobora FC in a closely contested game played on Tuesday in Luzira.

The former Onduparaka FC striker scored a goal in either half to cancel out Ibrahim Dada’s opener for Nyamityobora FC.

The brace took Agau’s goal tally to six this season and helped Maroons FC to register their second win.

Maroons FC began the better side and made several inroads at goal but could not find the desired early lead.

Pius Obuya had the first shot at goal in the 15th minute with a low drive just outside the area but goalkeeper Saddam Ogwang was well stationed to save.

Two minutes later, the Prison warders had a penalty claim turned down when defender Ibrahim Pengere seemed to have held the ball inside the area but referee Robert Donney waved for play on.

On the other hand, Brian Mugisha’s shot for Nyamityobora FC sailed just above the goal with Emmanuel Akol in goal for Maroons already beaten.

Yubu Bogere could have given Maroons the lead in the 23rd minute when he made a sole run, rounded off goalkeeper Ogwang but chose to cross rather than to score.

His lay up was way high for Rashid Agau and from here, they were penalised on the other end with Ibrahim Dada heading home from Charles Musiige’s cross.

The lead for the Banyakare was however short lived with Maroons levelling matters in the 27th minute.

Obuya’s defence splitting pass met Agau on the right, he rounded off goalkeeper Ogwang to slot home into an empty net.

In the second half, Maroons dominated proceedings and eventually got the second goal with Agau once coming handy.

Defender Muhammad Yiga failed to make a quick clearance and Agau was quick to tap the ball into the back of the net.

Despite efforts towards the end of the game by Abanyakare, the home side remained resilient to pick maximum points.

Victory takes Maroons to 11th place on ten points while Nyamityobora FC remain second from bottom on four points.
