The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has dismissed claims that it’s about to present former IGP Gen Kale Kayihura before the court martial for prosecution.
The story aired by a local television said Kayihura’s prosecution was imminent as investigations into his reign were complete.
Defence spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire described the report as “just speculation.”
Speaking to ChimpReports on Saturday, Karemire observed: “UPDF is handling the matter appropriately and will at an appropriate time communicate its findings, conclusion and decision.”
Kayihura was arrested two months ago from his farmhouse in Ntungamo.
A joint investigation committee chaired by CIID boss Grace Akullo interviewed Kayihura on the assassination of former AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Kayihura, according to officials who attended the interview, expressed surprise that such a question would be raised.
‘”Why would I kill Kaweesi?” asked Kayihura.
Kayihura’s lawyers, Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) say Kayihura has not been interviewed again on any other matter.
This website understands ISO asked President Museveni for one month to conclude investigations into Kaweesi’s murder before requesting for an extension of two more weeks which ended a fortnight ago.
