Preparations are in high gear for celebrations to mark the 39th Tarehe Sita Anniversary.
The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) annually marks Tarehe Sita to remember the National Resistance Army’s first attack on Kabamba barracks in Mubende on 6th February 1981 which resulted into a five-year bush war that led the NRM in power in 1986.
UPDF Spokesman Brig Richard Karemire says the main activities this year will be held in four districts in the Great Luwero Area.
“The districts to be covered are; Luwero, Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Wakiso (Busiro North),” he said.
“This area has been chosen because of the special historical role the people played during the 1981-1986 protracted peoples’ struggle to Liberate Uganda. The celebrations will be held under the theme ‘Consolidating the UPDF strategic partnership with the people to guard gains of liberation’”
As has been the norm, the UPDF will be holding public relations activities in the week leading up to February 6th.
During this ‘Defence Forces week’ commencing on 28th January 2020, Karemire says the UPDF wherever it is deployed, will conduct a range of civil military activities in support of the local areas.
“These will be aimed at fostering harmony between the forces and the people by working with communities to conduct cleaning of institutions, urban centres, tree planting, engineering works and medical camps. Members of the public in these areas are encouraged to participate and take maximum advantage of these services.”
