UPDF Speaks Out on Shooting at Entebbe Airbase

Gunshots roared this morning at the Entebbe Airbase as security officers battled an irate private security guard.

A source at the Airbase which in only a few hundred meters from the main Entebbe International Airport, says the unnamed security guard, pharm who was angry at his employers randomly started shooting in the air.

The source says the guard was disgruntled after his bosses of the Askari Security Group failed to pay him his salary.

“He shot several rounds but air base security has arrested him, ” he revealed.

According to the Air force spokesperson Capt. Arthur Tuimbagaya, the shooting happened at around 7:30 in the morning. He says the situation is now calm after the security guard’s arrest.

Contacted on the matter, the UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire confirmed the shooting, stressing however, that it was a minor incident.

The army mouthpiece told us, “An undisciplined private security guard working with Askari Company was being disarmed by the police. No need for alarm”

A few years ago, President Museveni approved the relocation of the UPDF Air wing from Entebbe to Nakasongola Airport, on grounds that it was dangerously too close to Entebbe Airport.
