Internal Security Organisation (ISO) operatives on Sunday night arrested four UPDF Soldiers in Kampala in a foiled robbery attempt.
According to sources, the arrested had attacked Fang Fang Restaurant in the city center. Their target has not yet been established.
Sources said the suspects stormed the restaurant armed with two sub machine guns and put all people on gun point.
Security sources said one of the victims brilliantly contacted them and operatives from ISO with backup from SFC swung in action and arrested the suspects.
In a brief statement, the UPDF spokesperson Brig.Richard Karemire confirmed the arrest of the soldiers.
“We have arrested the would be robbers, investigations have commenced.” he said
The suspects who are currently under ISO custody have been identified as Lance Corporal Ivan Asiimwe, Corporal Abas Majid, Private Joshua Chandini and Ivan Opio.
Two sub machine guns and over 200 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
Just last week a gang of yet to be identified armed robbers attacked a hardware in Nansana and killed three people before stealing unspecified amount of money.
The incident which happened in broad day light left many questioning the capacity of police in maintaining security in the city.
Also in the recent crime report of 2018, it was revealed that armed robbery is on the rise in the country.
