At least three people from the same family have been gunned down by assailants who included a UPDF soldier, Uganda Police says.
The incident occurred on April 14 at around midnight in Ariamokoli village, Olelay Parish in Aperikira sub-county in Kaberamaido District, Eastern Uganda.
Police spokesperson Emillian Kayima identified the deceased as Michael Okello, 34, Juliet Asemo, 30 and Samuel Ekwero, 12.
The thugs also robbed the family’s property.
“The assailants who were traveling on a motorcycle UEG 600A towards Soroti ran out of fuel. Locals waylaid them and lynched them,” said Kayima.
“One of the assailants was identified as Moses Ecumu, a serving army officer attached to Bombo Military barracks and resident of Tubur, Soroti,” said the police mouthpiece.
He said police swung into action and recovered an SMG rifle number 560118386 with 60 rounds of ammunition and three magazines.
The motive of the shocking murder is yet to be established.
But police acknowledge the incidents “continue to cause uneasiness” in the country, according to Kayima.
Kidnaps, robberies and murders have been on the rise in recent months.
