A total of four people were Monday morning shot dead in Nansana by a UPDF officer in a development that sent shock waves among locals and the leadership of the national army.
The soldier, now deceased has been identified as L/Cpl Omaro Denis Awillo.
Lt Col Deo Akiiki the UPDF deputy spokesperson says Omoro went berserk and opened fire, killing two Local Defence Unit personnel, one civilian and one police special constable (SPC).
The shooting took place at Ganda, Nansana Municipality in Wakiso district.
Akiiki says the culprit was as also put our of action by colleagues in “self-defence and to stop his wanton action.”
“We condemn the outrageous act of the lower Commander against his subordinates. We extend our sincere condolences to those whose life have been taken and grieve with the families.”
Akiiki said investigations have commenced to ascertain what prompted the Junior Non Commissioned Officer (JNCO) to shoot his colleagues.
