UPDF Sees Off Police to Win ‘Battle of Armed Forces’

UPDF FC 1-0 Police

UPDF ascended to the Uganda Premier League summit after edging rivals Police FC 1-0 at Bombo Military Barracks playground.

Ruben Kabuye scored the priceless goal in the game when his tapping from close range beat goalkeeper Thomas Ikara who had spilled the initial effort from Brian Kayanja.

UPDF’s hard fought win ended Police’s perfect start in the season who had won three of their last four matches and drawn one. The Army side now heads into the long break on top of the league.

Police’s dominance in the midfield was cut off by UPDF’s Sam Kintu, Ibrahim Wammanah and Hussein Zungu who restricted supply to the front line.

Head coach Abdallah Mubiru tried to make changes, withdrawing Derrick Kakooza for Mubarak Nsubuga and later Herman Wasswa and Tonny Mawejje came on but could not break the hosts’ resilience.

Victory took UPDF FC to top of table with 12 points from five games, two points ahead of Police FC that dropped to third.

The Uganda Premier League will break off up to February 2021 to allow Uganda Cranes prepare for the forthcoming CHAN tournament in Cameroon.
