UPDF Offloads 13 Players as 2020/21 Squad Takes Shape

Uganda Peoples Defence Force Football Club (UPDF FC) has released 13 players who were deemed as surplus to the requirement ahead of the 2020-2021 Uganda Premier League season

The players that were released on Thursday include Fred Kalanzi, Sydney Ssenyonga, Junior Akena, Moses Kamya Mukwaya, Enock Omakira, Titus Lubega, Jose Maria Lubega, Davis Kamista, Godwin Kawaga, Abdul-Karim Kasule, Emmanuel Egau, Abasi Kiberu and Roger Milla Ahumuza.

These have been showed the exit door as newly appointed coach Kefa Kisala hopes to build a formidable squad that will compete in next season’s top flight League.

However, according to the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ashraf Miiro, the released players will all be compensated in appreciation of their services rendered to the team during the FUFA Big League days.

Previously, the Armyside boosted their armoury with tried and tested signings in Simon Mbaziira, defender Ronnie Kisekka, Ibrahim Wammanah, right back James Begisa, Jesse Kajuba, Gadafi Gadihno, among others.

The club has also retained some key players from the previous roster including goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo, Ronald Owinyi, Andrew Waiswa, Najib Tusaba, Christopher Kawuga, Denis Ssekitoleko (Captain), Robert Nakyenalire and Ezekiel Katende.

Goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa, left back Isa Mubiru, Dickens Okwir, Charles Ssebutinde, and Rashid Agau are all reported to be in advanced talks with the club.

UPDF FC is also expected to promote their graduate Buni from Young Simba, the club’s reserve team.

Last season, UPDF FC gained direct promotion to the Uganda Premier League after topping the Rwenzori group of the FUFA Big League.

They will face off with Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA FC) that topped the Elgon group to determine the overall Champion of last season’s FUFA Big League.

The 2020/2021 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season is scheduled for 17th October, 2020.
