Police in Mbarara are hunting for a UPDF soldier who is said to have beaten to death a local bar owner on Monday in Ndeija, Mbarara district.
The suspect has been identified as Denis Tumukunde a UPDF officer who is said to have deserted the army and fled from Makenke barracks.
Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira says the suspect developed a quarrel on Monday night with Nickson Kanyesigye, a 27 year old bar owner in Buteraniro cell, Bujaga parish, Ndeija sub county, Rwampara County.
In heat of the exchange according to Kasasira, some people tried to but the trained officer overpowered the group and started hitting the deceased with electric cables and a hammer in the head killing him instantly.
Police rushed to the scene and found that the suspect had long fled.
A postmortem was carried out at the scene and the body handed over to the family members for burial.
Kasasira said police is liaising with the UPDF in Mbarara to hunt down and apprehend the killer.
Police say they searched his house and discovered marijuana packets, electric wires.
In another development, a security guard attached to Reserve Protection Services Ltd (RPS) Security Company in Mbarara is on run after he attempted to kill his employer.
Police says Simon Ssebaduka, 35, the company manager was shot in the arm over the weekend by one of his employees Boaz Nuwagira at their offices in Kamukuzi division in Mbarara Municipality.
Police spokesperson Kasasira says the suspect intended to kill the company supervisor Moses Orupia over management issues but the Manager jumped into the fray and was shot in the arm.
After the incident the suspect took off and is still on the run.
Ssebaduka is still admitted at Mbarara Referral hospital nursing bullet wounds.
